THE BLACK DESIGNERS ELEVATING OLYMPIC FASHION

The 2024 Paris Olympics kicked off on Friday with a grand opening ceremony featuring Snoop Dogg, Pharrell and Lady Gaga. The proud procession of the Olympains — in the pouring rain in typical Parisian fashion — was brightened by memorable looks, including standout designs from by Black designers.


Telfar Clemons - Liberia


Liberian-American Telfar Clemons went viral for his appreciation for details. His Africa-shaped neckline on the look inspired by traditional African silhouettes was the star of the weekend. This is the second year Clemons has designed for the Liberia Olympic team.





Moses Turahirwa - South Sudan 


The South Sudan basketball team pulled up to the Olympics turning heads in all-Black tailored suits by Sudanese designer Moses Turahirwa, founder of Moshions . The team even got a cosign from Lebron James who commented, “Them boys was clean AF!!!! 🔥🔥🔥🔥🫡”






Lanny Smith - Nigeria


Former NBA player, Lanny Smith designed the Nigerian team’s hand dyed uniforms and futuristic kits under his label Actively Black.  All of the pieces were crafted in Lagos to “make these outfits with love and authenticity” according to Smith. 






Kristin Frazer - The Virgin Islands


The Virgin Island native who made a name with her colorful geometric prints, designed Caribbean inspired duotone looks for the team. The women were dressed in printed fitted polos paired with white pants with colorful pocket detail.The men rocked a button down tops with bold stripes on one side.






Stella Jean - Haiti


Haitian-Italian designer Stella Jean crafted chic jacket looks with colorful painted pattern skirts and pants for the 2024 team.The men were dressed in chic baby blue guayabera jackets while the ladies sported jackets with a bold wide stripe belt.
