Rich The Kid
ATL’s own was running the fashion and rap game at the height of his hit “New Freezer.” In 2016. Vogue asked, “Who Is the Atlanta Rapper Taking Over Men’s Fashion Week?” His avant-garde approach to streetwear put Atlanta on the radar as a city to watch, forming a specific aesthetic built around Soundcloud culture along with his peers in the Atlanta game. His colorful dreads, crossbody bags, and distressed denim were hallmarks of his inventive approach to streetwear style, which today has evolved to be still be just as cutting edge.
Jaden Smith
Emerging as one to watch in fashion from his early teens, Jaden Smith’s elevated streetwear style is truly one of a kind. In true cancerian fashion he loves to keep it comfortable in sweats and relaxed silhouettes on the daily, but making his mark when he hits the red carpet. His signature dreads provided visibility on runways for Black models — including when he memorably carried them as an accessory at the Met Gala.
Pop Smoke
Even though the Brooklyn native only was in the spotlight for a minute, his impact and legacy on rap remains to be unmatched. Pop Smoke could always been seen dripped out in designer and was loyal to a few Black-led favorites —Off-White and Louis Vuitton. His practical style was minimal in design but showed his bold personality through print and texture, encapsulating the essence of a cancer. The “Welcome to the Party” rapper would have been celebrating his 25th birthday this year.
Vince Staples
While Vince may not be one to come to mind when you think of rappers who can dress, the Long Beach native has mastered the art of minimal dressing. His distinct relaxed west coast fashion style is comfortable yet clean. Marked by simple staples such as Caharrt and Converse. In one of his most recent projects, “The Vince Staples Show” he elevated his personal style with colorful prints and nice pulls from Stüssy and Supervsn.
Comethazine
Another trendsetter from the Soundcloud era, Comethazine came to the game with a hard-edge production style and sound that often faced critique. The “Walk” rapper’s bleached blonde hair and slit eyebrows were early influences on the grunge-influenced pre-pandemic fashion trends. Back from his break from music with a new 70s rocker vibe, Comethazine’s new look proves he had this softer side up his sleeve like a true crab.
