RESORT 2025 REVIEW: LOUIS VUITTON

Nicolas Ghesquière opened Louis Vuitton’s 2025 Resort show with a parade of gaucho hats, perhaps as a nod to the houses’ newly appointed creative director’s signature hat style — but that is where all similarities to Pharrell’s direction for the brand ended.

Surrounded by the picturesque mosaics of Antoni Gaudi’s Park Güell in Barcelona, this confused collection took the audience on a bull ride in a convoluted attempt to fuse 80s hallmarks and cowboy culture.

Our confused cowgirl was sent straight back the 80’s Dior runways with a series of exaggerated lapel necklines, large shoulder pads and fitted suit sets.

Glimpses of fun flamenco style appeared in sequined flapper dresses and polka dot dresses, only to fall a bit stale with uncalculated styling and color choices.

Traditionally western cerulean and scarlet tones, although on-the nose, elevated the otherwise arid color palette of sleepy nudes and grays.

Geometric prints clashed with utility details that had the potential to be interesting anchors of the collection, including harness bodices and over the knee riding boots.

Predictable leather and lace ensembles along with a disjointed haze of 70’s influence with capes, paisley prints and shirt dresses left little to no hope for the collection as it neared its finale.

Even the accessories, which are a hallmark of the house fell a bit flat with distracting fringe boots and forgettable handbags.

More successful concepts included a weightless dress full of fringe and color block lace cutout dresses emphasizing form, but a wow factor was still absent.

The saving grace came in at the last second of the show, with a series of clean pleated bubble dresses and skirts, incorporating the utility theme of the collection with the new cool girl essential — functional pockets.

Strong leather wrap waist bags brought the ideas of western practicality and effortlessly chic Spanish flair home for a win, but still leaving much to be desired from Pharell’s upcoming full spring collection.
